Diventa un volontario Wikimedia per la raccolta fondi del progetto "User Experience"![modifica]
Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.
I am (still) searching for volunteers to spend some time on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.
The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. **All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be very low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)**

Ringrazio tutti coloro che l'anno scorso si sono offerti volontari nel progetto "User Experience" di Wikimedia. Se per caso non ne hai ancora sentito parlare, il progetto 'User Experience' ha come obiettivo quello di capire l'esperienza di donazione nei diversi paesi (al di fuori degli Stati Uniti) al fine di migliorare la localizzazione delle nostre pagine di donazione. Sono (ancora) alla ricerca di volontari che trascorrano con me un po' di tempo sulla chat Skype per rivedere le pagine di donazione del proprio paese. Quest'ultimo verrà fatto su un formato "usabilità" (Ti chiederò di leggere il testo e passare attraverso la procedura di donazione) e ti sarà chiesto nel frattempo il tuo commento. L'unico pre-requisito per il volontario è quello di vivere realmente in quella nazione e avere accesso ad almeno un metodo di donazione che offriamo per quella nazione (principalmente attraverso carte di credito, ma anche bonifici o trasferimenti in tempo reale come Moneybookers, PostePay, Portafogli digitali, ecc ..) in modo da poter fare un test dal vivo e vedere se la donazione passa attraverso questi metodi. **Tutti i volontari saranno rimborsati delle donazioni che eventualmente avranno successo (e lo saranno in quantità molto basse, come il 1-2 dollari)** Aiutandoci, in realtà, stai aiutando migliaia di persone a sostenere la nostra missione di una conoscenza libera per tutto il mondo. Wikivoyage è in onda su Wikimedia[modifica]

Descrivi le tue esperienze accumulate nei tuoi straordinari viaggi! Wikivoyage è stato lanciato oggi in via ufficiale. Questa è l'annuncio non ufficiale da parte della comunità italiana. Data la novità di questo progetto vorrei spiegare senza dilungarmi troppo gli aspetti più importanti di Wikivoyage. Wikipedia e Wikivoyage hanno delle differenze: mentre Wikipedia descrive nel teorico il sapere enciclopedico su un certo soggetto/oggetto, in Wikivoyage descriviamo le mete turistiche da un punto di vista pratico utile per il viaggiatore cercando di elaborare una voce che spazi su aspetti tipici di quel luogo, di quella cultura, aspetti anche minimi ma che fanno assaporare il vero gusto di viaggiare. Nessuno poi impedirà di stamparsi una guida, se fatta bene e affiancarla ad una comprata. Gli articoli di Wikivoyage hanno una struttura fissa e seguono specifiche regole da guida turistica. Nel corso di un viaggio potresti annotarti consigli, scoperte fatte, posti di interesse non menzionati o che semplicemente hanno una loro particolarità e a ritorno a casa aggiungere le annotazioni nell'articolo di Wikivoyage per tante altre persone che sulla base della tua esperienza personale potranno scoprire nuovi posti da visitare, piatti da gustare o semplicemente mete verso cui viaggiare.
Non è possibile ringraziare tutti i volontari che fin dalla nascita si sono impegnati per far crescere e promuovere Wikivoyage, ma penso sia d'obbligo complimentarmi con Gobbler, pilastro di Wikivoyage dai tempi del distacco da Wikitravel, i cui contributi a tematiche e articoli sono la vera ossatura del wiki. Wikivoyage deve molto ad Alex brollo per il lavoro da botolatore senza fine che lo ha costretto a ritagliare nelle vacanze di Natale, pomeriggi e nottate per impostare il suo bot. L'introduzione di template sinottici e di geocodifica in Wikivoyage è stata resa possibile da Codicorumus, senza di cui non mi sarebbe stato possibile colmare le enormi lacune della mia conoscenza su questo specifico settore. Ringrazio anche il wikisourciano OrbiliusMagister per i suoi consigli profondi e salutari, necessari alla riuscita di un progetto come questo. Siamo anche debitori nei confronti di Amarvudol che ha iniziato, lui per primo, la revisione dei contenuti e il riordino di Wikivoyage, che viene da un trasloco in cui ci siamo persi (eh già!) alcune cose. Vorrei sottolineare infine l'entusiasmo e l'incitamento dato a me e al progetto dal wikiquotiano Spinoziano con cui stiamo pensando di creare una prima Wikiguida per accogliere i nuovi utenti. Se qualcuno ha delle idee in proposito ci può scrivere. |

Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.[modifica]
(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) Next week, the Wikimedia Foundation will transition its main technical operations to a new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, USA. This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. There will be some times when the site will be in read-only mode, and there may be full outages; the current target windows for the migration are January 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2013, from 17:00 to 01:00 UTC (see other timezones on timeanddate.com). More information is available in the full announcement.

Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful[modifica]

Greetings. As you might have seen on the Wikimedia tech blog or the tech ambassadors list, a new functionality called "Lua" is being enabled on all Wikimedia sites today. Lua is a scripting language that enables you to write faster and more powerful MediaWiki templates.
If you have questions about how to convert existing templates to Lua (or how to create new ones), we'll be holding two support sessions on IRC next week: one on Wednesday (for Oceania, Asia & America) and one on Friday (for Europe, Africa & America); see m:IRC office hours for the details. C'è una nuova richiesta di pareri su Meta-Wiki che riguarda la rimozione dei diritti di amministratore per i Wikimediani inattivi da lungo tempo. Tale proposta verrebbe messa in atto, in linea di massima, dagli Steward sulle wiki prive di alcun sistema di riconferma o decadenza per inattività.
Stiamo anche compilando una lista di progetti con procedure per rimuovere gli amministratori inattivi dalla talk page della richiesta di commento. Non esitare ad aggiungere il tuo/i progetto/i alla lista, se hai una regola da proporre sull'inattività dell'amministratore.
Ogni parere è gradito. La discussione dovrebbe concludersi intorno al 21 maggio 2013 (21/05/2013), ma se necessario potrebbe essere prolungata.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.
Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

- MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode. [4]

- A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [6]

VisualEditor[modifica]
Ciao a tutti (e sentite scuse a chi legge questo messaggio per l'ennesima volta). Sto passando su diverse wiki per annunciare una novità che potreste non conoscete ancora: si chiama VisualEditor. Sarà la nuova interfaccia per creare e modificare testi nei nostri siti, e dalla versione beta in poi (che arriverà su Wikipedia a luglio!) renderà molto più semplice editare, il che potrebbe voler dire più utenti che arrivano, provano a scrivere, restano nella comunità. Per provarlo potete attivarlo subito su it.wikipedia.org tramite la pagina "Preferenze", nella sezione "Casella di modifica", selezionando l'opzione Abilita VisualEditor (solo nei namespace principale e Utente). Solo se per il momento si desidera continuare a usare l'editor tradizionale per la modifica di singole sezioni, si può spuntare anche la casella Utilizza l'editor di wikitesto per modificare le sezioni. Io faccio da referente per la comunità italofona, e perciò, per come la vedo io, anche per voi: se avete bisogno di aiuto o volete segnalare un bug scrivetemi qui, così cercheremo di risolvere eventuali problematiche il prima possibile. Vi lascio infine i link alle FAQ e al Manuale, e spero di avere presto vostre notizie: è vero che ci vorrà un po' perché sbarchi anche su questi lidi, ma darsi da fare subito può aiutare ad assicurare poi al vostro progetto una transizione più semplice. The ULS provides a flexible way to configure and deliver language settings like interface language, fonts, and input methods (keyboard mappings). Pywikipedia is migrating to git[modifica]
Hello, Sorry for English but It's very important for bot operators so I hope someone translates this. Pywikipedia is migrating to Git so after July 26, SVN checkouts won't be updated If you're using Pywikipedia you have to switch to git, otherwise you will use out-dated framework and your bot might not work properly. There is a manual for doing that and a blog post explaining about this change in non-technical language. IMPORTANTE: revisione dell'attività dell'amministratore[modifica]
Salve. Recentemente la comunità globale ha adottato un nuovo regolamento riguardante la rimozione di "diritti avanzati" (amministratori, burocrati, ecc), della cui discussione la tua comunità aveva ricevuto notizia. Secondo queste regole, gli stewards stanno rivedendo le attività degli amministratori nelle wiki più piccole. Per quello che sappiamo, la tua wiki non ha un procedimento formale per togliere i "diritti avanzati" dagli account inattivi. Questo significa che gli stewards si occuperanno di questo aspetto secondo le nuove regole dell'attività di amministratore che si applicano qui.
Abbiamo determinato che i seguenti utenti rispondono ai criteri di inattività (assenza di contributi e azioni di registro per più di due anni):
- Tooby (burocrate, amministratore)
Questi utenti riceveranno presto una notifica, che chiederà loro di iniziare una discussione comunitaria se vogliono conservare i loro diritti o alcuni di essi. Se gli utenti non risponderanno, i loro diritti avanzati saranno rimossi dagli steward.
Tuttavia, se la tua comunità vorrebbe creare un proprio regolamento in materia rimpiazzando quello globale, prendere un'altra decisione riguardo a questi titolari inattivi di diritti o ha già un regolamento di cui non eravamo a conoscenza, per favore informa gli steward su Meta-Wiki e sapremo di non dover procedere con la revisione dei diritti sulla tua wiki. The legal team at the Wikimedia Foundation would greatly appreciate your input on the best way to manage the "community logo" (pictured here) to best balance protection of the projects with community support. Accordingly, they have created a “request for consultation” on Meta where they set out briefly some of the issues to be considered and the options that they perceive. Greetings!
Notifications will inform users about new activity that affects them on this wiki in a unified way: for example, this new tool will let you know when you have new talk page messages, edit reverts, mentions or links -- and is designed to augment (rather than replace) the watchlist. The Wikimedia Foundation's editor engagement team developed this tool (code-named 'Echo') earlier this year, to help users contribute more productively to MediaWiki projects.
We're now getting ready to bring Notifications to almost all other Wikimedia sites, and are aiming for a 22 October deployment, as outlined in this release plan. It is important that notifications is translated for all of the languages we serve.
There are three major points of translation needed to be either done or checked:
- Echo on translatewiki for user interface - you must have an account on translatewiki to translate
- Thanks on translatewiki for user interface - you must have an account on translatewiki to translate
- Notifications help on mediawiki.org. This page can be hosted after translation on mediawiki.org or we can localize it to this Wikipedia. You do not have to have an account to translate on mediawiki, but single-user login will create it for you there if you follow the link.

Speak up about the trademark registration of the Community logo.[modifica]
Hi all,
Please join the consultation about the Community logo that represents Meta-Wiki: m:Community Logo/Request for consultation.
This community consultation was commenced on September 24. The following day, two individuals filed a legal opposition against the registration of the Community logo.
The question is whether the Wikimedia Foundation should seek a collective membership mark with respect to this logo or abandon its registration and protection of the trademark.
We want to make sure that everyone get a chance to speak up so that we can get clear direction from the community. We would therefore really appreciate the community's help in translating this announcement from English so that everyone is able to understand it.

Introducting Beta Features[modifica]

We would like to let you know about Beta Features, a new program from the Wikimedia Foundation that lets you try out new features before they are released for everyone.
Think of it as a digital laboratory where community members can preview upcoming software and give feedback to help improve them. This special preference page lets designers and engineers experiment with new features on a broad scale, but in a way that's not disruptive.
Beta Features is now ready for testing on MediaWiki.org. It will also be released on Wikimedia Commons and MetaWiki this Thursday, 7 November. Based on test results, the plan is to release it on all wikis worldwide on 21 November, 2013.
Here are the first features you can test this week:
- Media Viewer — view images in large size or full screen
- VisualEditor Formulæ (for wikis with VisualEditor) — edit algebra or equations on your pages
- Typography Refresh — make text more readable (coming Thursday)
Would you like to try out Beta Features now? After you log in on MediaWiki.org, a small 'Beta' link will appear next to your 'Preferences'. Click on it to see features you can test, check the ones you want, then click 'Save'. Learn more on the Beta Features page.

The Wikimedia legal team invites you to participate in the development of the new Wikimedia trademark policy.
The current trademark policy was introduced in 2009 to protect the Wikimedia marks. We are now updating this policy to better balance permissive use of the marks with the legal requirements for preserving them for the community.
